Hello-Dia Dhuit-Shwmae
I’m Fergal Fitzmaurice, an Irish personal trainer and Pilates coach now based in Cardiff. I’ve spent over 20 years working in the fitness industry across Ireland and the UK, helping people build strength, move better, and feel more confident in their bodies.
My approach is shaped by both my background in sport and my experience working with real clients — people with busy lives, demanding jobs, and limited time. That’s why I focus on simple, structured training that actually works.
By combining strength training, Pilates, and practical nutrition, I help you build long-term results without extremes or fads — just consistent, intelligent coaching that fits into your life.
My Story
My career in fitness spans over two decades across Ireland and the UK, working at every level of the industry — from coaching clients on the gym floor to managing some of the largest and most successful health clubs in the country.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science from Liverpool John Moores University, giving me a strong foundation in biomechanics, physiology, and performance training. Alongside this, I am a certified nutritionist through Mac-Nutrition Uni (MNU), where I specialised in evidence-based nutrition coaching focused on long-term health, fat loss, and body composition.
In addition to my academic background, I am fully qualified in both mat and reformer Pilates, allowing me to integrate movement quality, core control, and mobility into traditional strength training. This combination forms the foundation of the Strength X Pilates approach.
Earlier in my career, I represented Ireland in mountain running, competing internationally at the World Mountain Running Trophy in Germany. This experience gave me a deep understanding of performance, discipline, and the long-term demands placed on the body — something that continues to shape how I coach today. Over the years for "fun" I have completed adventure races, marathons and even an Ironman event!
Professionally, I have held senior leadership roles within major fitness brands including David Lloyd, Fitness First, and DW, managing large teams, multi-million-pound operations, and memberships of over 8,000 members. These roles developed not only my coaching expertise, but also a deep understanding of what truly works when it comes to helping people achieve results at scale.
My Approach
What sets my coaching apart is the integration of:
-
Progressive strength training to build muscle and resilience
-
Pilates-based movement to improve mobility, posture, and core control
-
Evidence-based nutrition to support fat loss, performance, and health
-
Structured programming designed for long-term sustainability
I specialise in working with busy professionals — particularly those over 40 — who want to improve their strength, reduce body fat, and move without pain or restriction.
My focus is not just on short-term results, but on helping you build a stronger, healthier body that supports you for years to come.
